Can I use the information in this course to train or benefit people with dementia or other neurological conditions (such Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, or Parkinson’s Disease)?

While the Brain Health Trainer Certification course is not a course on how to provide exercise prescriptions or facilitate exercise sessions for individuals with dementia or other neurological conditions, there is course content that is relevant to working with individuals with dementia or other neurological conditions. The evidence demonstrating the cognitive and brain health benefits of exercise in various neurological conditions is well-documented, but the less evidence is available for more selective effects across these different populations. In addition, clients with other conditions (diabetes, depression, cardiopulmonary conditions, etc) may also have concurrent cognitive issues that could benefit from appropriate exercise prescription. Dual-task training has also demonstrated cognitive and/or functional benefits to several of these populations. Further training and continued education in working with any of the populations in question is strongly encouraged.
